Tours are hosted by me, Juliet Harbutt, food writer, wine buyer and world cheese expert! Together we gather the best food & wine Hawke’s Bay has to offer while touring this area of outstanding natural beauty, with glimpses of Cape Kidnappers , black swans in the wetlands, willow lined rivers and elegant Art Deco buildings.
Lunch is at my home, overlooking Black Barn Vineyards and includes a Cheese & Wine Experience and what we discovered en route - tamarillos, whitebait, strawberries..
All Tours are private, designed just for you. [There are no scheduled tours]
What you can expect
Tasting exceptional food & wine at stunning locations, Making a quick detour for coffee and a kiwi donut. Drop into the Strawberry Patch for your best ever fresh fruit ice cream and seasonal produce. All this before heading to my gorgeous home, overlooking the vines and orchards of the Bay, for an amazing lunch.
The heroes of lunch are 8 outstanding artisan cheese, ripened to perfection in my own “cave” matched with local wines!
We can also visit galleries and artists or even a book shop with rare gems from yesteryear. All possibilities dependent on availability and what you love. Whatever we do I will designed a day to create lasting memories.
Local Markets
Saturday Tours -Black Barn Growers Market
From December to February we can stop at this small, charming Growers Market under leafy, plane trees with live music, coffee and whitebait fritters. It means we visit less places but meet more producers and some of the locals.!
Sunday Tours - Hastings Farmers Market
NZ’s best and most diverse market with everything from Cashew nut “cheese” to wild game charcuterie, cheesemakers, to die for dumplings, authentic French patisserie, unforgettable coffee and other local gems. Ideal for gathering what we need for lunch.
